Ian has taught Creative Writing at Lancaster University and the University of Cumbria. His first short story was published in 1998 and since then he’s had other work out in print, a play performed professionally, also winning a poetry prize while he was a student at St Martin’s College.

A recent edition of Dream Catcher magazine included his short story Moving On and he has an MA in Creative Writing and an interdisciplinary PhD from Lancaster University. The latter spawned (amongst other things) The Northumbrian Westerns ,with a first novel, Burnt Horizon coming out in 2015. The second novel, Blighted Land, was published in 2016.

He is a member of a select group of writers in Kendal who meet up to critique each others work and occasionally he reads some of his poetry at the Brewery Arts Centre .
