Late Summer Lakes

It’s easy to forget how lovely the English Lake District is.

Living so near the lakes and mountains can make all this beauty almost seem mundane. Like many people living near somewhere really pretty, we get used to the great scenery. Accept it as the background to day-to-day life.

There are even times where I wonder what it would be like to live somewhere else. Somewhere interesting like the coast. Or where the weather is better (that’s most places). Foreign and exotic, even. But that’s ignoring what a wonderful place the Lake District is.

Earlier in the week, I got the chance to go for a walk up a small fell behind Ambleside. It was only a half-hour stroll but the views were fantastic. Lake Windermere and Loughrigg and the Langdales in the distance. Fantastic.

It was great to sit there and think and take in the scenery.

Forget about day-to-day stuff for a while.
